His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the Maldives–UK Business Forum held in London this evening. This is the eighth edition of the global series organised by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
The forum brought together representatives from the United Kingdom’s corporate sector, underscoring the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations.
During the event, President Dr Muizzu delivered his remarks outlining major investment opportunities for UK businesses across five strategic sectors: the creative economy, digital transformation, renewable energy, fisheries and ocean innovation, and tourism infrastructure. The President reiterated the Government’s ongoing reforms to enhance the investment climate, including the introduction of a new Foreign Investment Act and the reactivation of Special Economic Zones.
The President also officially launched the Maldives fisheries promotion brand “From Maldives” at the forum - an initiative aimed at promoting the nation’s commitment to sustainable fishing practices and positioning Maldivian seafood as a premium export product in global markets.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the West London Chambers of Commerce and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to strengthen bilateral business engagement.
The Rt Hon Lord Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, also delivered remarks at the forum, emphasising that investors are placing their trust in the Maldives’ clear and compelling vision for the future.
The event also featured a high-level panel discussion themed "Investing in the Future: A dialogue on Maldives Economic Vision". The session provided participants with the opportunity to engage with the Maldivian delegation and explore partnerships in priority sectors such as tourism, fisheries, renewable energy, waste management, and finance.
