President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day.

The President received a warm welcome from Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen. The President was accorded a guard of honour in recognition of his esteemed position.

At the ceremony, he presented Presidential Medals, Long Service Medals, and Distinguished Service Medals to MNDF officials, as well as Presidential Medals and Distinguished Service Medals to MPS officials.

In his address, President Dr Muizzu lauded the commitment demonstrated by the MNDF and MPS in safeguarding the Maldives’ independence and sovereignty. He emphasised the Government’s firm resolve to ensure that both the armed forces and police are adequately supported, reiterating their pivotal role in maintaining peace and security.

Following the President's remarks, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen also addressed the gathering, reinforcing their dedication to the principles of national security. The ceremony concluded with members of both the MNDF and MPS renewing their pledges to uphold their commitments to the Maldives’ safety and stability.

Senior Government officials, army and police chiefs, along with a significant number of military and police personnel, attended the ceremony.
