President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inspected the progress of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project today. The initiative, first announced during his speech at the inauguration of the renovated Izzuddin Jetty, aims to develop the stretch between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and the Local Market.
The President visited the designated site for road development on the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in the MMA area, where he assessed the progress of the first phase. He was received by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, along with the Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retd.) Ahmed Saudee.
In the first phase, all sheet piling and installation work has been completed, with 82 per cent of land reclamation works finalised.
When announcing the project, the President said that Boduthakurufaanu Magu would be developed with two lanes in each direction, involving partial reclamation from the sea, road widening, and the integration of all essential systems, including underground infrastructure, paving, and other high-standard upgrades. He affirmed that, God willing, the work would be completed and inaugurated by the end of this year. The project was officially contracted to MTCC on 9 April 2025 and is currently in progress.
Upon completion, Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be transformed into a modern road, equipped with advanced drainage systems, widened lanes, improved traffic flow, and a welcoming environment for both vehicles and pedestrians.
