The digital services of Maldives Immigration, developed under the ‘Maldives 2.0’ project, have been officially inaugurated, bringing an end to the necessity for in-person visits for passport and visa services.

The inauguration ceremony, held this morning at Barceló Nasandhura Malé, was graced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Upon his arrival, the President was welcomed by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan.

During the event, the new Maldives Immigration website, mobile application, and facial recognition system were unveiled, with President Dr Muizzu officially launching the e-Visa service.

Launched as a special presidential initiative, ‘Maldives 2.0’ is a programme designed to steer the nation towards transformative digital reform through collaboration among all State institutions. The project aims to usher the Maldives into a new digital era, realising the goal of fast, secure, and transparent service delivery within the next three years. It focuses on fundamentally transforming the administrative operations of State institutions and the delivery of public services through digital innovation.

Under the ‘Maldives 2.0’ initiative, Maldives Immigration has become the first Government agency to achieve full digitalisation of its services.

At the ceremony, a commemorative plaque was presented to President Dr Muizzu in recognition of his efforts to realise the ‘Maldives 2.0’ vision and drive transformative progress nationwide. The plaque was presented by Minister Ihusaan and the Controller General of Immigration, Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Faseeh.
