President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed that his Administration is committed to pursuing the most appropriate and principled courses of action, prioritising sound governance over expedient alternatives.
Addressing the “Dhiveheenge Raajje” gathering, hosted by the People’s National Congress (PNC) at Malé’s Artificial Beach to commemorate the second anniversary of his Administration, President Dr Muizzu, who also serves as President of the governing PNC, outlined the Government’s approach to key national challenges.
Highlighting issues such as drug abuse, gang crime, and the management of expatriate populations, the President stressed a proactive and principled approach to governance. He detailed the Administration’s comprehensive efforts to combat narcotics, uphold the rule of law, and address challenges associated with undocumented migration. Referencing initiatives including Operation Kurangi, the enforcement of stringent penalties for drug-related offences, and the nationwide special operation launched on Thursday to dismantle illicit drug networks, he underlined the Government’s unwavering commitment. He further emphasised the Administration’s resolve to strengthen the judiciary’s institutional capacity, ensuring justice is delivered with consistency, rigour, and impartiality.
President Dr Muizzu briefed attendees on the formulation of Government policies and the strategic mechanisms employed to coordinate national development projects. In this context, he highlighted three principal pillars underpinning the Government’s policy agenda: stability, development, and security. He further stressed that Islam constitutes the foundational framework of the Administration’s governance and institutional priorities.
He reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to the Maldives’ First foreign policy, underscoring the nation’s stance of maintaining cordial relations with all countries, with the exception of Israel. He confirmed that Israeli passports would remain inadmissible for entry into the Maldives for as long as the Palestinian people continue to face persecution.
On matters of national security, President Dr Muizzu highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the defence apparatus and safeguard internal stability. He emphasised that enduring stability requires transcending personal and partisan interests and eliminating politically motivated vendettas. The President noted that, under his leadership, no individuals have been incarcerated on political grounds, and that rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly have been substantially broadened within the framework of Islamic principles. He also echoed the Maldives 2.0 initiative, a strategic reform agenda aimed at combating corruption and enhancing the integrity, transparency, and accountability of public governance.
The President stressed the Government’s commitment to cultivating a healthy, mindful, and inclusive society through targeted initiatives to strengthen both preventive and curative healthcare services. He also highlighted efforts to instil patriotism and civic responsibility through strategic reforms in the national education system.
President Dr Muizzu reiterated the Administration’s commitment to equitable development, affirming that previously overlooked islands and communities are now receiving due attention. He emphasised that Malé and the outer islands hold equal significance in the national development agenda. He outlined ongoing decentralisation and empowerment programmes, including initiatives to expand access to affordable housing, promote inclusive development, and foster regional equity. The President also highlighted strategic efforts to accelerate socio-economic development in Addu, the nation’s second most populous region.
The President announced plans to establish Presidential Advisory Committees for three cornerstone sectors of the national economy: tourism, fisheries, and construction. These committees will provide consultative platforms to enhance stakeholder engagement and offer strategic direction for sustainable and inclusive sectoral advancement. He affirmed that economic stabilisation would be achieved through coordinated development of both private and public sectors across all regions, fostering resilience, generating employment opportunities, and laying the foundation for sustained national prosperity.
Concluding his address, President Dr Muizzu urged voters to elect councillors who would actively support the implementation of development initiatives rather than hinder progress. He expressed sincere appreciation for the public’s continued trust.
The event attracted an unprecedented turnout, including First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of Parliament Abdulraheem Abdulla, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior Government officials, PNC leaders, and a record number of members of the public.
