President His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with His Excellency Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting reinforced the strong and brotherly relationship between the two nations, with both leaders emphasising their shared values and mutual interests.

During the meeting, the President and the Prime Minister explored potential avenues for cooperation in various sectors, including commerce, trade, education, tourism, and increasing direct flights between the two countries. The Pakistani Prime Minister commended the Maldives' remarkable progress in tourism and expressed interest in leveraging the Maldives' expertise to further develop Pakistan's tourism sector.

They also discussed climate change and adaptation strategies, expressing their commitment to addressing these global challenges and encouraging each other to emphasise climate action during their respective addresses at UNGA 79. President Dr Muizzu also highlighted his administration's "5 Million Tree Project" and discussed potential collaboration with Pakistan in support of this initiative, which was proposed during COP28.

To conclude, the leaders reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening diplomatic ties and advancing strategic cooperation on issues of shared concern. They reiterated their commitment to fostering deeper bilateral relations in the future.
