Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Nikolay Yankov, presented his Letters of Credence to the President, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held on Monday morning at the President's Office.

The Ambassador was escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a cultural procession called “Haiykolhu" with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

The Ambassador presented his Letters of Credence to the President, who accepted it and welcomed him as the Ambassador of Bulgaria to the Maldives.

Following the presentation, the President and Ambassador discussed areas for strengthening cooperation, including in the tourism sector, educational and training opportunities, people to people exchanges and avenues of cooperation at the international level.

Diplomatic relations between Maldives and Bulgaria was established on 14th August 1984. This is the third Bulgarian Ambassador accredited to the Maldives.

The Ambassador is accredited to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador and resides in India.
