President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the health sector will receive the highest priority in the Government’s 2026 State Budget, reaffirming his Administration’s commitment to strengthening public health and safeguarding the wellbeing of all citizens.
The President made the announcement while addressing residents of Naifaru during his ongoing visits to the inhabited islands of Faadhippolhu. He emphasised that a healthy population forms the foundation of the nation’s economic and social progress, underscoring the importance of building a society free from preventable diseases and resilient to emerging health challenges.
President Dr Muizzu highlighted that the 2026 budget will focus on both preventive and curative healthcare. Reflecting on the adverse impacts of tobacco use, he urged the public to refrain from harmful habits that contribute to various health problems.
He further assured that the forthcoming budget will include measures to ease the financial burden on citizens who must travel abroad for medical treatment of serious conditions. The President reaffirmed that the Government remains steadfast in pursuing development that is both tangible and beneficial to the people.
President Dr Muizzu also revealed that, following the Cabinet’s decision on the 2026 budget framework, the education sector will receive the second-highest priority after health.
As part of his visit to Faadhippolhu, the President made his first stop at Olhuvelifushi, where he met with residents and assured them that the 2026 State Budget will be submitted to the People’s Majlis before the end of this week, in full compliance with the law.
