President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that all pledges made to the residents of Lh. Naifaru will be fully realised, stating that the island’s development is not only a duty but also a source of personal happiness.

The President made the remarks while addressing residents of Naifaru as part of his ongoing tour of Faadhippolhu. During the visit, several agreements on development projects were formalised, and the President also witnessed the commencement of multiple initiatives.

Highlighting Naifaru’s pivotal role in sustainable development, President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed that the planned projects will proceed and be completed as scheduled. He noted that once the harbour upgrades are complete, Naifaru will once again feature one of the largest harbours among inhabited islands, as well as the largest in the northern region of the country.

The President also commended Naifaru’s long-standing reputation for academic excellence, emphasising that the advancement of the education sector is central to the island’s transformation into an urban centre. He announced plans to establish an Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM) campus and hostel on the island and witnessed the formalisation of an agreement to develop a campus of the Maldives National University (MNU).

He further revealed plans for the construction of an extension to the existing school building, which will include ten additional classrooms and science laboratories. In addition, he announced that work will commence this year on a new Islamic Centre.

Turning to the health sector, the President unveiled plans to expand the island’s hospital into a state-of-the-art, 50-bed facility designed to meet the healthcare needs of a growing urban population.
Highlighting housing as one of the Government’s top priorities, he added that an 800-unit housing project will be undertaken in Naifaru during the current term.

Addressing the island’s limited land area, President Dr Muizzu noted that many of the planned developments depend on the completion of the land reclamation project. The addition of 45 hectares of new land, he said, will mark a new chapter in Naifaru’s development, reaffirming his vision of ensuring the complete fulfilment of his pledges.
